WASHINGTON COUNTY.

bridges, causeways, boundaries, marks, directions, or other
establishment thereon, such person or persons, being thereof
convicted in the general or any county court, shall be fined at
the discretion of the court, not exceeding ten pounds, accord-
ing to the nature and degree of the offence, and all fines im-
posed in such cases shall be appropriated to the purpose of
repairing such damages, and improving the road, and shall be
paid to, and accounted for by the supervisors of the counties
wherein such damages shall be sustained.

stones, &c.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be lawful
for the supervisors aforesaid, and persons to be employed by
them, to take and carry away any stones, gravel, or earth of a
firm quality, that may be found on any land adjoining the
roads for which the same may be wanted, without leave of the
owner, or making him any compensation therefor ; Provided,
that no stone, gravel or earth, quarried or collected by the
owner for his own use, or for sale, shall be so taken or applied.
SEC. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. Relate to Baltimore county.

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act to straighten and amend the
several Public Roads in the several Counties, and for other purposes
therein mentioned. — 1791, ch. 82.
SEC. 1, 2, 3, 4. Directory as to opening certain roads.

Justices
vested with
power, &c.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the justices of the peace in
Frederick and Washington counties be and they are hereby
vested with all the powers which are, by the said act, vested
in the justices of the county courts of the said counties; and
that the said justices of the peace, at the time of laying the
county levies in their respective counties, annually, after this
act, shall or may levy such sums of money as shall be found
necessary, not exceeding the sum limited in the said counties
by the above recited act, for the purposes therein expressed ;
and they are hereby authorized to do every other act and
thing that the justices of the said county courts were autho-
rized to do under the said recited act.

Roads to be
cleared,
&c.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That all the roads in and by this
act established in Frederick and Washington counties shall be
cleared in the same manner, and they are hereby declared to
be subject to. all the other rules and regulations, to every
intent and purpose, as the public roads of said counties, men-
tioned in said act, are thereby subjected to.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the justices of the peace in
Frederick and Washington counties, or the majority of them,
shall have full power and authority to meet at their respective
court-houses when they may find it expedient, and then and
there may direct the main roads of their respective counties,
not mentioned in the aforesaid act, or in this supplementary
