act, to be repaired, cleared and amended, in such manner as
they may think necessary, either by the overseers by them
appointed, or by contract with any person or persons for that
purpose, and upon their being so repaired and amended, to
settle with the person or persons so employed, and to direct
the same to be paid for out of the surplus, if any, that may
remain of the taxes to be levied in their counties under the
aforesaid act.
SEC. 8, 9, 10, 11. Directory as to certain roads.

AN ACT to extend the Powers of the Levy Court of Washington County.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the levy court of Washington county are hereby authorized
and empowered, to allow to the supervisors of the public roads
such additional compensation for their services in superintend-
ing the working of said roads, and for settling their accounts,
as to said levy court may seem reasonable and right ; and said
levy court may also allow to labourers, to be hereafter em-
ployed by the supervisors as aforesaid, any sum not exeeeding
one dollar per day, for each day they may be employed in
working on said roads.

A SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act to provide for electing
Commissioners for Washington County, and prescribing their powers
and duties.— 1830, ch. 75.

A further SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act to provide for the
election of Commissioners for Washington County, and prescribing
their powers and duties. — 1834, ch. 116.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, whenever any citi-
zens of Washington county, intend to petition the commission-
ers of said county, for opening, amending or closing of any road,
they shall be required to give three weeks notice thereof, in
one or more of the newspapers published in said county, of
such intention, for the purpose of giving an opportunity to all
persons who may be opposed to the opening, amending or
closing such road, to put in their counter petition, and when-
ever a counter petition shall be presented to the commissioners,
they shall take into consideration the reasons contained in such
petition, and such other testimony as may come before them,
and determine the case, as in their opinion may seem right and
proper.
