plements thereto, to which this is a further supplement, be,
and they are hereby authorized to draw on the treasurer for
the amount of money allotted to Saint Mary's county, by the
provisions of the original act, whenever they shall deem it
necessary, to defray the expenses of the free schools in said
county.

Repeal.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
inconsistent with or repugnant to the provisions of this act, be,
and the same are hereby repealed.

AN ACT to divide Saint Mary's County into Primary School Districts, and
to erect School-houses therein. — 1838, ch. 362.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the persons herein after named in the second section of
this act, be, and the same are hereby appointed commission-
ers of primary schools for Saint Mary's county, whose duty it
shall be to lay off and describe their respective election dis-
tricts, into a suitable and convenient number of school districts,
not exceeding three for the first, five for the second, seven for
the third, five for the fourth, and three for the fifth election
district, and it shall be the further duty of said commissioners
of primary schools, whenever they shall have laid off and de-

scribed any school district, to fix upon some central situation
therein, as a site for a school-house, and to appoint five suitable
and discreet persons friendly to the establishment of primary
schools, and residents of such district, who shall act as trustees
of such school district.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That Wm. L. Smith, John W.
Bennet, and Caleb M. Jones, be, and they are hereby appointed
commissioners of primary schools for the first election district ;
Richard Thomas, Cornelius Coombs, and John Holton, for the
second; William Floyd, Bennet Gough, and William T. Mad-
dox, for the third ; James Schammell, Benedict I. Heard, and
Richard H. Miles, for the fourth ; and George Thomas, John
H. Sothoron, and Robert Davis, for the fifth ; and it shall be
their duty, on or before the second Monday in June next,
to return in writing to the commissioners for Saint Mary's
