make repairs to, and have the custody and charge of the school-
house ; make a quarterly report to the said managers ; specify-
ing the number of scholars with the condition and progress of
the school, and generally attend to all the local concerns of
their sub-districts, subject to the advice and control of the said
managers.

SEC. 18. And be it enacted, That the said trustees shall
annually make a statement in detail of all the expenses of the
school, in their respective districts and shall submit the same
annually to the managers of their respective districts, on or
before the day to be herein after determined by the said mana-
gers, and shall at the same time exhibit their accounts to the

may, at any time, authorize to be paid to said trustees for their
current expenses, any money in the hands of the said treasurer,
not exceeding the whole amount received by him, and property
belonging to such districts respectively.

SEC. 19. And be it enacted. That the said trustees of each
school district shall annually, as aforesaid, report to the said
managers, the length of time each school has been kept open in
such district, specifying the number of children, male and
female, which have been taught during the year, and, as far as
they can, ascertain the number of white children between the
ages of six and sixteen, inclusive, residing in each school
district.

SEC. 20. And be it enacted, That if any manager or trustee,
appointed as aforesaid, shall make a false report, by means
whereof any moneys shall be fraudulently obtained or be frau-
dulently applied to purposes not authorized and required by
law ; or if any manager or trustee shall fraudulently appro-
priate to his own use, any money so received by him, the said
manager or trustee shall be liable to pay double the amount
thus wrongfully obtained and misapplied, to be recovered by
action of debt before any court, or justice of the peace, in said
county, having jurisdiction in the case, and the amount so re-
covered, shall, after payment of costs of suit, be applied to the
school fund of said county.

SEC. 21. And be it enacted, That the said managers and the
said trustees respectively, shall be enabled to hold any pro-
perty which may be granted to them for the use and benefit of
the primary schools in the said sub-districts, election districts
and county, and such property, whether real or personal, shall
be to them and their successors in office, in the same manner as
if they, the said managers and the said trustees, were respec-
tively a body politic and corporate in law.
