DORCHESTER COUNTY.

 

ceed five hundred acres of land; And whereas, said trustees
have represented to this general assembly, that they have made
an advantageous and cheap purchase of a farm containing seven
hundred and twenty-two acres of land, and pray that their act
may be confirmed ; therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted , by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the purchase of the farm for the use of the poor of Dor-
chester county, made by the trustees of the poor, and containing
seven hundred and twenty- two acres, be and the same is hereby
confirmed and made as valid and effectual, as if the same had
contained but five hundred acres of land, as was required by
the original act, to which this is a supplement.

Loan au-
thorized.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the present trustees of the
poor for Dorchester county, shall be and they are hereby au-
thorized to contract for, and negotiate a loan upon the credit of
said county, tor any sum of money not exceding fifteen hundred
dollars, for the use and benefit of the new poor's institution in
said county.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That to secure the punctual pay-
ment of said loan as the same shall become due, the trustees
aforesaid shall be and they are hereby authorized and required,
to set apart the amount now due, for the sale of the old poor-
bouse farm, and the surplus production of the new farm, as a
fund, to be used for the purpose of paying said loan, and no
other.

 

AN ACT to introduce the cultivation of Mulberry Trees, and the growing
of Silk, at the Alms house, in Dorchester County. — 1838, ch. 90.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is believed that the introduction of the mul-
berry tree, and the raising of silk at the alms-house in Dor-
chester county, would tend, not only to lessen the public
expenditures on that account, but would introduce a species
of profitable industry eminently adapted to the condition of
those usually found in such institutions ; therefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the levy court of Dorchester county, be, and they are
hereby required, if in then judgment the interest of the county
would be promoted, to levy upon the assessable property of

directions of the trustees of the poor of said county, to the
culture of the mulberry tree, and growing of silk at the alms-
house.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the trustees of the poor for
said county, in carrying into effect the provisions and inten-
tions of this act, are required to expend in the purchase of
