they may see proper ; Provided, that the amount paid said out-
pensioners, shall not exceed the sum of one thousand dollars in
any one year ; And provided also, that the said trustees shall
not allow any person an cut-pension, who is not a fit subject to
be received into the said alms and work-house.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That whoever shall presume to
purchase any matter or thing whatsoever, which shall belong
to said alms and work-house, from any of the poor contained
therein, during their continuance in said alms and work-house,
contrary to the provisions of this act, such person, upon con-

viction thereof in the county court of said county, shall forfeit
and pay for every such offence the sum of twenty dollars, cur-
rent money, to be applied towards the support and maintenance
of the poor of Dorchester county, under the direction of said
trustees.

Penalty.
|
SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That the justices of the levy
court of the county aforesaid, at some one of their sessions,
after the first Monday of April next, and yearly and every
year thereafter, shall and they are hereby empowered and
directed to assess and levy on the assessable property of said
county, at the time of making their county levy, such sum of
money as the said trustees, or a majority of them, shall or may
deem absolutely necessary and requisite to carry into effect
the intentions and provisions of this act; to be collected and
paid as other county levies are, which said money, when col-
lected, shall be paid by the collector to the trustees of the poor,
or to the order of them, or a majority of them, under their com-
mon seal, who are hereby authorized and required to receive
and apply the same to and for the use, benefit and charge of
maintaining the poor, in purchasing provisions and other neces-
saries for their use and labour, for providing men and women
servants, to be under the direction of the overseer, for pur-
chasing materials for the use and employment of all the poor
who shall be able to work, and to carry into effect the other
provisions of this act.

SEC. 11. And be it enacted. That all laws contrary to the
provisions of this act, be and the same are hereby lepealed.
A SUPPLEMENT to the Act, entitled, an Act to authorize the Trustees of
the Poor of Dorchester County, to purchase a farm for the use of the
Poor, and to sell the present Alms-house of said County, and for other
purposes; passed March the ninth, eighteen hundred and thirty-two.

Repealing
clause.

WHEREAS, by the act passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty-one, chapter two hundred and fifty-six,
section first, the trustees of the poor of Dorchester county, were
authorized to purchase a farm for the use of the poor not to ex-
