CALVERT COUNTY.

 

the same; and if it shall be made appear to the satisfaction of
said commissioners or a majority of them, that said complaint or
charge is just and well founded, then the said commissioners
shall have power, and they are hereby authorized and required
to deduct from the compensation allowed to the said overseer,
such sum as to them shall seem just and proportionate to the
degree of remissness or neglect, not exceeding eight dollars for
any single offence, which sum so deducted shall be retained by
the collector, subject to the future disposition by said commis-
sioners for county purposes.

Repealing

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That no person who does not own
a cart or horse, shall be compelled to work on the said roads ;
and that all laws repugnant to, or inconsistent with the pro-
visions of this act, be and the same are hereby repealed, so far
as the same relates to Galvert county.

SCHOOLS.
1816, ch. 256, ante page 654, creates the fund.
1621, ch. 116 ; 1827, ch. 35, places the fund under the control of different
persons.

AN additional SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act for the distribution
of a certain Fund for the purpose of establishing Free Schools in the
several counties therein mentioned. — 1837, ch. 35.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the orphans court of Calvert county be, and they are
hereby substituted in the place of the commissioners of the
school fund heretofore appointed, and the said orphans court
is hereby vested with all power and authority, which the said
commissioners were vested with by the act to which this is a
supplement.

Treasurer
to pay over.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western
shore be, and he is hereby directed to place to the credit of the
orphans court of said county, or their order, the proportion of
the school fund to which said county is entitled, in the
Farmers' Bank of Maryland.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of the
school fund heretofore appointed by the act to which this is a
supplement, be, and they are hereby directed and required to
pay over to the orphans court of said county the balance, if
any, of such school fund as may have been drawn by them
from the treasurer of the western shore, and not distributed in
said county, and the orphans court of said county is hereby

land, and to apply such sum or balance to the education of
indigent children.
