of the levy court shall hereafter be made ; and all the powers

 

lawfully exercised by, or vested in, the commissioners of the

 

tax for Anne Arundel county, and all the duties required by

 

law to be performed by them, shall be vested in, and exercised

 

and performed by, the said commissioners for Anne Arundel

 

county, after they shall have become qualified as aforesaid.

 

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the commissioners for Anne

Clerk.

Arundel county, shall, at their annual meeting, appoint a fit and

 

proper person, who shall transact all the business, and discharge

 

all the duties now appertaining to the several and respective

 

officers of clerk of the levy court and commissioners of the tax,

 

in the same manner as the clerk of Anne Arundel county, and

 

the clerk of the commissioners of the tax for said county, are

 

now by law severally authorized and required to transact the

 

same, and the person so appointed shall, before he enters upon

 

the duties of his office, execute a bond to the state of Maryland,

 

to be approved by the said commissioners, in the penalty of one

 

thousand dollars, conditioned for the true and faithful perform-

 

ance of the several and respective duties hereby imposed, which

 

bond shall be recorded in the clerk's office of the county court

 

of said county, and a copy thereof, under the seal of said court,

 

shall be as sufficient evidence as the original ; and the said

 

clerk, when appointed, shall also take and subscribe the follow-

 

ing oath, or affirmation, as the case may be, to wit: I, A. B.

 

do swear, or affirm, that as clerk to the commissioners for Anne

 

Arundel county, I will honestly and faithfully, to the best of

 

my skill and judgment, execute the duties of said office, without

 

favour, affection, or prejudice, so help me God ; which oath, or

 

affirmation, any one of the said commissioners is hereby autho-

 

rized to administer; and the said clerk shall be subjected to the

 

same penalties and forfeitures for non-performance or neglect of

 

official duty, as are prescribed by the existing laws in relation

 

as well to the several matters and things which the clerk of the

 

county court of said county is legally directed and required to

 

perform, under the authority of the levy court, as likewise to

 

those which appertain to the office of the present clerk of the

 

commissioners of the tax for said county.

 

SEC. 6. And be it enacted. That in case of a vacancy occur-
