Keeps records and data as to Maryland's participation in World

War II.

VETERAN'S AFFAIRS

Maryland Veterans Commission

11.02.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 961/2, §§3-7.

Head: State service officer appointed by commission. Chairman of com-
mission designated by the governor,

Members: 5 Maryland veterans appointed by the governor serve without
pay but receive traveling expenses,

Term: No statutory provisions.

Removal: No statutory provisions.

Employees: All merit. At present, there are 18 employees.

Function: Administers a fund, appropriated annually, to provide the neces-
sities of life to distressed veterans,, widows of veterans and their
infant children, to provide medical care for those who are ill, and
funeral expenses for deceased veterans. Also cooperates with federal
government.

War Memorial Commission

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 65, §§78-82.

Head: Chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, and treasurer elected by Com-
mission from its membership.

Members: 10—5 appointed by the governor; 5 appointed by the mayor
of Baltimore. Members serve without salary but get expenses. All
members are to be veterans.

Term: 5 years—staggered.
Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: Md. Code Ann., art. 65, § 81 empowers the commission to hire a
custodian and a janitor for the War Memorial Building.

Function: Has custody and supervision of the War Memorial Building and
Plaza.
