PROMOTION OF INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURE

Maryland Port Authority

15.01.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 62B, § 3

Head: Chairman appointed by governor. Vice-chairman, secretary-
treasurer elected by members.

Members: 5 members appointed by governor (various geographical qualifi-
cations).

Terms: 5 years—staggered.

Removal: Removable by the governor for misfeasance, malfeasance or
willful neglect of duty, after notice and hearing Md. Code Ann.,
art. 62B, § 3(d).

Employees: Authority appoints an executive director who serves at its pleasure.
Authority employs agents, etc., the employment, tenure of all full-
time employees,, except the executive director, traveling represen-
tative and other such key personnel as the authority may determine
with the approval of the governor, who require special skills, are
subject to the merit system. Md. Code Ann., art. 62B, § 5(o).

Function: To improve the private and public facilities of Baltimore's harbor
and to promote and increase harbor commerce through extensive
public relations programs.

Maryland Industrial Development Financing Authority

Established By: Chapter 714, Acts of 1965.

Head: Authority elects one of the rnembers as chairman.

Members: 5, appointed by the governor, including the state treasurer who
serves ex officio.

Term: 5 years, staggered.
Removal: By the governor for cause.

Employees: The Authority elects a manager who also serves as secretary of
the Authority.

Function: To provide opportunities for new and expanded industrial enter-
prises; to promote the expansion and diversification of industry;
to assist and encourage nonprofit development corporations and
local units of governments to stimulate business growth in their
communities by providing mortgage loans.
