tive committee of the Maryland State Horticultural Society.

Function: To plan and conduct programs to promote the consumption of
Maryland apples.

Maryland Office of Economic Opportunity

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 361.

Head: Executive director.

Members: Executive director appointed by governor.

Term: No statutory provision.

Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: Executive director is not subject to merit system. Md. Code Ann.,
art. 41, § 362. None of the personnel employed by Md. O.E.O. is
subject to merit system. Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 363 (c).

Function: Administers and implements federal aid and program.

Department of Economic Development

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 257.

Head: Chairman of State Commission of Economic Development ap-
pointed by governor. Director, appointed by governor upon
recommendation of State Commission.

Members: 12 members appointed by governor with the advice and consent of
the Senate (geographic and experience qualifications).

Term: 6 years. Director serves at pleasure of governor.
Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: Director is not subject to the merit system Md. Code Ann., art. 41,
§ 259. All other employees are under merit system. Md. Code Ann.,
art. 41, § 265.
