Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: Md. Code Ann., art. 56, § 214—executive secretary employed and
discharged at pleasure of Commission. Commission employs and
discharges at its pleasure field inspectors. 1 merit and 16 un-
classified.

Function: Licenses real_estate agencies, brokers and salesmen doing business
in Maryland. May revoke, refuse, or suspend licenses for violations
or unethical conduct.

Maryland Savings-Share Insurance Corporation

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 23, § 161MM.

Head: Board of Directors—chairman elected by Board.

Members: 11 members of board initially appointed by governor. After 25
associations are members of corporation, the associations elect 8
directors. 3 directors, in addition to 8 directors, are appointed by
governor.

Term: 3 directors appointed by governor hold 4 years.

Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: No statutory provision.

Function: Corporation has power of corporation under state laws. It insures
savings and loan and building and loan associations. The cor-
poration is funded by the member savings and loan associations
in the State.

LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Department of Labor and Industry

Established By: Md, Code Ann., art. 89, § 1.

Head: Commissioner.

Members: Commissioner appointed by governor.

Term: 4 years.

Removal: Governor may at any time remove the commissioner from office
for inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office. Md. Code
Ann., art. 89, § 1.

Employees: Deputy commissioner appointed after competitive exams. Under
present system, he is subject to merit system. All employees are
under merit system.
