Maryland Racing Commission

07.17.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 78B, § 1.

Head: Chairman designated by governor from membership.

Members: 5 members appointed by governor.

Terms: 5 years, staggered.

Removal: Governor may remove any commissioner for inefficiency, neglect
of duty, or misconduct in office after notice and hearing Md. Code
Ann.., art. 78B, § 2.

Employees: Commission may appoint such officers, inspectors and experts
as necessary who shall serve at the pleasure of the Commission.
Commission may appoint a secretary and clerks as necessary
who are members of merit system. Md. Code Ann., art. 78B, § 4.
Additional employees, such as guards, scientists, veterinarians, etc.,
whose compensation is paid by the licensee of the racing meet. 5
merit; 7 unclassified.

Function: Prescribes rules, regulations and conditions for conducting racing.
Licenses all holding or conducting of any race meet in Maryland.

Maryland-Bred Race Fund Advisory Committee

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 78B, § 18A under jurisdiction of Mary-
land Racing Commission.

Head: Chairman.

Members: Five members appointed by Maryland Racing Commission
as specified by law.

Term: 1 year.

Removal: No provision in statute.

Employees: No provision in statute.

Function: Assist and advise commission in administering Maryland-
Bred Race Program and Maryland-Bred Race Fund.

Real Estate Commission

07.14.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 56, § 213.
Head: Chairman—chief of the License Bureau.

Members: 7 members: chief of License Bureau; 5 members from various
counties and 1 member from State at large appointed by governor
with advice and consent of Senate.
