Department of Water Resources

09.08.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 96A, §§ :l-58.

Head: Chairman of Water Resources -Commission designated by the
governor from membership.

Director appointed by the Comrnission with the approval of the
governor in accordance with the merit system law.

Members: 5, appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the
Senate.

Term: 4 years for Commission members. Commission chairman at the
pleasure of the governor.

Removal: Commission chairman at the pleasure of the governor, director
under merit provisions.

Employees: Commission members and chairmanexempted from merit system.
They receive per diem allowance in budget Tor Commission. At
present there are 27 merit and 5, unclassified employees.

Function: Commission acts in advisory capacity to director who is adminis-
trative head of the department. Department is responsible for
supervising and planning the multiple purpose development of the
waters of Maryland, including the making of surveys, maps and
investigation of the water resources,

State Soil Conservation Committee

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 66C, § 91.

Head: Committee designates its chairman frommembership.

Members: Director of the Maryland Experiment Station; the director
of the Maryland Department of State Forests and Parks;
chairman of the State Board of Agriculture; dean of agri-
culture of the University of Maryland; the director of the
Department of Game and Inland Fish; three soil conserva-
tion district supervisors, each of whom serve for a term of a
year, to be appointed by the State Board of Agriculture; and
principal administrative officer for Maryland of the Soil
Conservation Service, United States Department of Agricul-
ture; director of Department of Water Resources; and Di-
rector of the Maryland Agricultural Extension Service.

Term: District supervisors serve 3 year terms.

Removal: No Specific Provision.

Employees: No compensation except expenses.

Function: Soil conservation information and coordination.
