CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION STUDY DOCUMENTS

Members: 8-member board—2 appointed by the governor for 5-year
term. Ex officio members: professor of psychology in medical
school, University of Maryland; 2 sociologists from Univer-
sity of Maryland and Johns Hopkins (to be appointed by
president of each university); professor of constitutional law,
University of Maryland School of Law; and 2 members of
the Maryland Bar (appointed by governor).

Term: 5 years for 2 bar members appointed by governor.

Employees: Members of board to receive per diem salary.

One member of board to serve as secretary upon designation
by chairman.

Function: Gives general consultative and advisory services on problems
and matters relating to professional and legal relationships
of patients confined in the Patuxent Institution. Also author-
izes surgery on defective delinquents.

Sundry Claims Board

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 188A.

Head: Chairman and secretary designated by governor from among mem-
bers.

Members: Attorney general or representative.
Comptroller or representative.
Director of budget or representative.

Term: No provision.

Removal: No provision.

Employees: No provision.

Function: Administers benefits whenever a prisoner jn Patuxent or Maryland
Penitentiary, or any institution under supervision of the Board of
Correction, sustains a compensatory injury.

Department of Parole and Probation

06.13.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 108.

Head: Board of Parole and Probation—chairman is the director of parole
and probation.

Members: Chairman and two associates appointed by the governor with
advice and consent of the Senate.

Term: 6 years—staggered.
