Montrose School for Girls

11.01.05.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 52A, § 1.

Head: Superintendent appointed under merit provisions by Director
of Juvenile Services.

Employees: Superintendent and all empoyees except professional teachers,
are under the merit system. Professional teachers exempted
under Md. Code Ann., art. 64A, § 3; art. 77, § 329. At
present, there are employed 120 merit and 20 unclassified
persons.

Function: School for delinquent girls.

Governor's Committee to Promote Employment of the Handicapped

13 04.06.01

Established By: Governor in 1947.

Head: Chairman of Committee appointed by the governor.

Members: Appointed by the governor; no fixed number.

Term: One year terms.

Removal: No provision.

Employees: Secretary under the merit system. Committee members serve with-
out compensation.

Functions: Functions as an educational and public relations instrument to
create a public awareness of the problems faced by handicapped
individuals in finding employment. 24 local committees have been
organized, one in each county and in Baltimore City.

Maryland Workshop for the Blind
Established By: Chapter 566, Acts of 1908.

Head: Board elects one of its members as chairman; superintendent ap-
pointed by the Board.

Members: 5: 3 apointed by the governor with Senate approval and 2 elected
by the Board of Directors of the Maryland School for the Blind.

Term: 2 years concurrent.

Removal: Superintendent serves at the pleasure of the Board.

Employees: 51 employees; superintendent serves as secretary to the Board.

Function: To render vocational, library and home services to the blind.
General supervision and control of workshops for the blind.
