Head: Chairman and vice-chairman selected by Board every two years.

Members: 12 members with certain professional qualifications, appointed by
governor with Senate confirmation.

Term: 6 years—staggered—limit of 2 terms.
Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: Secretarial services furnished by the departments. (All merit
system employees)

Function: Cares for the health interests of the people; establishes general policy
and generally supervises the administration of health laws. Md.
Code Ann., art. 43, § IF.

Planning Council for the Board of Health and Mental Hygiene
Established By: The Board of Health and Mental Hygiene, June, 1963.
Head: Chairman.

Members: 15, including representatives of the medical profession and
the public.

Term: 3 years, staggered.

Removal: No provision.

Employees: None.
