On motion of Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Maddox, Compton and Fra-
zier, to introduce a bill to repeal section 1, chapter 157 of
1866, and to re-enact and amend the same.

On motion of Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Maddox, Tome and Comp-
ton, to introduce a bill to repeal chapter 108 of the laws of
1866, and re-enact the same with amendments,
On motion of Mr. Stephenson, it was

Ordered, That the Secretary have made and put up good
and substantial steps to the back entrance of the Senate
Chamber.

Mr. Henkle, from the Committee on Internal Improve-
ments, reported favorably a bill entitled, an Act supplemen-
tary to an Act to incorporate the Chesapeake Bay and Poto-
mac River Tide Water Canal Company, passed at January
Session, 1866, chapter 173 ;

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Internal Improvements, and ordered to be printed.

Mr. Vickers, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
to which was referred the bill entitled, an Act to provide for
the payment of the Officers of Registration of the State, their
officers and expenses ;

Reported it with the following amendments :
In the 9th line of the first section, strike out the words,
"and other officers."

In the 10th and 11th lines of the first section, strike out
the words, "and other necessary expenses."

In the 7th line of the 2d section, strike out the words, "and
other officers."

In the 10th and 11th line of the 2d section, strikeout "and
other expenses."

Add to the first section the following :

"And provided, that the said County Commissioners and
Registers of the city of Baltimore, shall consider the services
of the said Clerks were necessary, for the proper performance
of the duties of the Registration Officers.

Title, strike out the words "and expenses."

Which were read and adopted.

Mr. Davis, of Caroline, submitted the following amend-
ment :

At the end of line 9, section 1st, in any election distrct in
the State, where such election district has 500 voters or more..
This amendment shalljnot prevert Clerks which have hereto-
fore been appointed from receiving pay;
