Mr. Davis withdrew the amendment.

Mr. Vickers submitted the following amendment:

Amend by adding the following to the first section, as
proposed to be amended.

''And provided further, that in future registrations, no
clerk shall be employed by the Registers, unless the election
district shall contain five hundred or more voters;"

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Young submitted the following amendment:

In the first section, third line, after the word shall, insert
"in their discretion ;"

Determined in the negative.

The bill was then read a second time, and ordered to
be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Maddox, from the Select Committee, reported favorably
a bill entitled an Act, authorizing and directing the Commit-
tee on Claims to examine into and pay the claims of the mem-
bers and officers of the General Assembly of Maryland, for
services at the Extra Session in Frederick city, in September,
1861, and appropriating a sum of money to pay the same;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Jump, from the Select Committee, reported favorably
a bill entitled an Act, to incorporate the Cecil and Harford
County Boom Company;

Which was read the first time, and ordered to be printed,
And made the order of the day for Tuesday, the 5th day of
February next.

Mr. Kimmel, from the Select Committee, reported favor-
ably a bill entitled an Act, to provide for correcting the lists
of qualified voters by adding thereto the names of citizens of
this State who have been restored to their full rights of citi-
zenship by an Act of the General Assembly, and for amend-
ing the Article of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled
Registration, by adding thereto the following section;

Which was read the first time.

At 12 o'clock, M., the Senators proceeded to the Hall of the
House of Delegates for the purpose of convening in Joint As-
sembly with that Body for the election of United States Sena-
tor.

The Senators at 1 o'clock, P. M., returned and resumed the
ordinary busines of the session.

Mr. Vickers, moved a suspension of the rules to give the
bill entitled an Act to provide for the payment of the officers
of Registration of the State, their officers and expenses—a
third reading;
