Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill to change the name of Benjamin Edes
Long to Benjamin Long Edes.

Mr, Bowie, from the Select Committee, reported a bill en-
tied, an Act to refund to William McKnew a certain sum of
money erroneously paid into the State Treasury ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Brodwater presented the memorial of thirty-five citi-
zens of Worcester county, remonstrating against applying
any money appropriated to works of internal improvements
in Worcester" county, to works of internal improvement in
Somerset county;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the follow-
ing message.

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 21, 1867.
Gentlemen, of the Senate:

We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
that the Committees on Immigration of the Senate and House
of Delegates, act conjointly upon the suggestions made in the
message of his Excellency, the Governor, relating to amend-
ment of the Immigration Laws.

Chief Clerk.

Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Maddox,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Maddox, Vickers and Jump,
to introduce a bill for the taking and preserving testimony in
relation to slaves, taken by the military during the late Re-
bellion, from their owners.

Mr. Stephenson, from the Committee on Agriculture, to
which was referred the bill entitled, an Act for the preserva-
tion of growing timber in Washington county;

Reported it with amendments ;

Mr. Bowie moved to strike out Washington county, and
insert "this State."

Mr. Bowie withdrew the amendment.
On motion of Mr. Stephenson,

Said bill was referred to the Committee on Judicial Pro-
ceedings, with instructions to revise sub-section 8 of Article
