Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.

The bill entitled, an Act to alter, amend and add new sec-
ions to the Act of 1865, chapter 160 entitled, an Act to add
a new article to the Code of Public General Laws, to be en-
titled, Public Instruction, providing a uniform system of free
public schools for the State of Maryland;

Being under consideration,

Mr. Compton submitted the following amendment:

Amend section 2, line 5, by inserting after the word par-
tizan, the words "or sectarian;"

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Compton submitted the following amendment:

Amend section 3, by striking out all after the word each,
in line y, to the word President in line 11 inclusive, and sub-
stituting in lieu thereof, the following : "There shall be a
President of each Board of County School Commissioners;"

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Compton submitted the following amendment:

Amend section 3, by inserting after the word annum, in
line 19. the following : "In such counties as do not contain
more than 4 Commissioner districts, and in such counties as
contain more than 4 Commissioner districts, $50 for every
additional district not to. exceed $800;

Mr. Earle submitted the following amendment to the
amendment:

Amend section 3, line 19, by striking out the word "five,"
and inserting the word "nine;"
