SATURDAY, March 9, 1867.

Mr. Stephenson presented the memorial of merchants of Bal-
timore city, asking relief from exhorbitant charges in the
Court of Appeals;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

On motion by Mr. Mackall,

It was ordered by the Senate that it be entered upon the
journal, that the senator from Worcester county is absent
from his teat in consequence of some indisposition.
On motion by Bowie,

It was ordered that the Committee on Claims be directed
to pay to Alfred Spates, senator from Allegany county, the
usual per diem from the first day of the session, and all
proper legal expenses attending the contest for the right to
his seat.

Mr. Billingslea moved that the vote whereby said order
was adopted, be reconsidered ;

On the question being put, it was

Determined in the affirmative.

The question then recurred upon the adoption of the order,
and it was

Determined in the affirmative.

On motion by Mr. Waters,

It was ordered that it be entered on the journal that
Joseph Lynch, messenger of this Senate, is detained from
the discharge of his duties here by severe illness.

On motion by Mr. Vickers,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to report a bill to provide for the codification and index-
ing of the public general and public local laws.

On motion by Mr. Jump,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings to introduce a bill entitled, an Act to divide the fees and
charges received by the several guagers of casks and inspec-
tors of domestic and distilled liquors, in the city of Baltimore,
in equal proportions among said inspectors.

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Henkle, Mules, Compton,
Maddox and Bowie, to introduce a bill entitled, an Act to
provide for the disposition of the tobacco warehouses of the
State, in the city of Baltimore, and for the building of new
warehouses in deep navigable water.
