CHAPTER 364.

AN ACT to create the office of Lumber Inspector
and Wood Corder of Pocomoke river.

Passed 1867.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Governor, by and with the
advice and consent of the Senate, shall biennially
appoint three suitable persons as Inspectors and
Measurers of lumber, and Corders of firewood for
the Pocomoke river, one of whom shall reside in
New Town, whose duty it shall be when called on
by any seller or purchaser of lumber or firewood,
to an amount greater than one thousand feet of
lumber or ten cords of firewood, to measure and
inspect the same.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That said Inspectors
shall make such deductions on all lumber and fire-
wood) for mildews, bad, hollow or rotten knots,
splits, bad sawing, waney edges, rots or dotes, as
in their judgment may bejust and proper.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the said In-
spectors shall charge and receive for each one hun-
dred feet of lumber they may inspect, two cents,
and for each cord of firewood they may measure
under the provisions of this Act, four cents, to be
paid in all cases by the purchaser, and on his ne-
glect or refusal to pay the same, the Inspector
may collect it as other debts.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That each Inspector
shall, before entering upon his duties as provided
for in the provisions of this Act, be sworn in due
form of law, before some Justice of the Peace of
Worcester or Somerset county, to the faithful and
impartial performance of his duties.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted. That this Act shall
take effect immediately after its passage.
