AN ACT to protect persons known as Huxters in
Whashington, Allegany and Harford counties. |

SECTION 1. Belt enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That from and after the first day
of May, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, it shall
not be lawful for any person or persons, not per-
manent residents of this State, to come into either
Washington, Allegany or Harford counties for the
purpose of carrying on the business of huxtering
by gathering butter, eggs, poultry, etc,, without:
having first obtained from the Clerk of the Cir-
cuit Court of such respective county a license
therefor. |

Sec. 2. Be it enacted, That for any and every
license thus granted the said Clerks shall demand
and be entitled to receive as follows.' For a license
to employ not more than one team of' not less. than
three horses or mules, the sum of eighty dollars;
for a license to employ not more than one team of
not more than two horses or mules, the sum of
sixty dollars; for a license to employ not more
than one team of more than one horse or mule the
sum of forty dollars. |

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That any person or
persons violating the provisions of this Act upon
conviction thereof shall be subject to a fine of
fifty dollars, which fine shall be collectable as
small debts are now collected, one-half to the in-
former, who is hereby made a competent witness,
the remaining portion thereof to be applied to the
use of the Public Schools of said counties. |

Sec. 4. Be it enacted. That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of May, Anno Domini
eighteen hundred and sixty-seven. |
