to be a corporation or body corporate by the name
and style of the Union Orphan Asylum of Balti-
city for maintaining and educating children of
deceased soldiers and sailors of the State of Mary-
land, and by that name they and their successors
may at all times hereafter be capable in law to
have, receive and retain to them and their succes-
sors property, real, personal and mixed, and also
devises and bequests of any persons or bodies cor-

porate; provided, that said corporation shall not at
any time hold or possess property, real, personal
or mixed, to exceed the value of one hundred and
fifty thousand dollars.

Proviso.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That the said corpo-
ration, by name and title aforesaid, shall be capa-
ble in law to sue and be sued in all or any Courts
of Law or Equity.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That it shall be lawful
at any time for the General Assembly to demand
a statement of the property, real, personal and
mixed, belonging to the said corporation and of the
debts due to and from the said corporation, and
the purposes for which disbursements shall have
been made; and also have the right to authorize
one or more persons to inspect such general ac-
counts in the books of the corporation as shall re-
late to such statements.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted. That the funds and
estate of the said corporation shall not any time
be diverted from the purposes contemplated by its
formation without the permission of the General
Assembly of Maryland.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That upon the adop-
tion by the said corporation of this remedied char-
ter, the existing charter created by the ninth
chapter of the laws, passed at the January session,
eighteen hundred and sixty-five, of the General
Assembly of Maryland, be, together with the Act
itself, repealed, but without injury or prejudice to
any acts done, or rights vested or intended to be
vested under the charter so repealed, the intention
of this reservation being to confirm to the said
corporation any title to property which may have
been transferred to or vested in it under the name
of the Union Orphan Assylum of Baltimore city
prior to the passage of this Act.
