°" SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That under the title "Crimes and
Punishments" of Article thirty of the Code of
Public General Laws the following sections under
their respective titles or sub-titles, hereinafter
mentioned, be and the same are hereby repealed,
to wit: Sections sixty-nine, seventy, seventy-one
and seventy-two) sub-title "Importing Convicts
or Slaves;" sections seventy-five and seventy-
seven, sub-title "Incendiary and obscene Publica-
tions;" sections ninety-four, ninety-five ninety-
six and nincty-seven, sub-title "Kidnapping;" sec-
tion one hundred and twenty-cight, sub-title
"Marrying Unlawfully;" section one hundred and
forty-one, sub-title "Murder," relating to killing,
in attempting to arrest and canry a person, free or
entitled to freedom after a certain age, or upon a
contingency out of the State; section one hundred
and forty-six, sub-title "Negroes," relating to the
conviction and sale of negroes who belong to
secret societies, and section one hundred and for-
ty-seven, sub-title "Negroes," which makes it
felony for any person to form such society of ne-
groes or joint association of negroes and white
persons; section one hundred and forty-eight, sub-
title "Negroes," relating to the owners of houses
or rooms who may suffer secret societies of negroes
and white persons to assemble therein; sections
one hundred and forty-nine and one hundred and
fifty, sub-title "Negroes," relating to the replevin
of slaves and prohibiting the sale thereof before
the determination of the suit; sections one hun-
dred and fifty-three and one hundred and fifty-
four, sub-title "Passes to Negroes," which pun-
ishes the granting of passes to free negroes and
the sale of such passes; section one hundred and
sixty-eight, sub-title "Religious Meetings," which
punishes with stripes negroes lurking about camp-
meetings and selling or bartering spiritous liquors,
and sections one hundred and seventy-four, one
hundred and seventy-five, one hundred and seven-
ty-six and one hundred and seventy-seven, sub-
title "Runaways," which constitutes the abscond- |
