or stripes, and which prescribes a punishment
upon such persons as shall persuade or entice any
slave to abscond from his lawful owner. |

take effect from the date of its passage. |

AN ACT to add a new section to Article eight of
the Code of Public Local Laws relating to the
powers of the President and Commissioners of
the village of Port Deposit. |

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the following new section be
added to Article eight of the Code of Public Local
Laws relating to the powers of the President and
Commissioners of the village of Port Deposit, to
come in after section one hundred and sixty-
four of said Article eight of the Public Local
Laws: |
New Section. |
The said President and Commissioners shall
have power to change the course of the stream
known as Middletown Run and straighten the
same so that it shall cross the western edge of Main
street in said village, between the stable on the lot
now occupied by William Parker and the house
upon the lot of C. W. Knight, and thence by a
straight line to the Susquehanna River, and in
case they shall fail to agree with the person
through whose property the said stream, when it
course shall be changed, shall run, or if such
owner shall be incompetent to contract then the
land necessary for said stream may be condemned
as provided in section one hundred and fifty-eight
of said Article, and shall have full power to make
culverts under the streets to convey the water into
the river in any part of the village, and levy a tax
on the assessable property and collect the same a |
