Mr. Maddox moved a call of the Senate,

The Sergeant-at-Arms was sent to inform the absent Sena-
tors that their attendance was required in the Senate Cham-
ber.

On motion by Mr. Tome,
The Senate adjourned until Tuesday morning at 12 o'clock.

TUESDAY, February 26, 1867.

The President laid before the Senate the following com-
munication from His Excellency, Governor Swann :

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,

February 26th, 1867.
To Lieut. Governor, C. G. Cox,

DEAR SIR: Having informed you of my purpose to resign
the position which 1 now hold as Governor of Maryland, on
the 26th, (this day.) I now state, in order that it may be
communicated to the Senate, to whom the announcement has
been made, that I do not feel at liberty to take this important
step, without further time for deliberation. I shall commu-
nicate with the General Assembly at as early a day as practi-
cable, upon this subject.
