(The rules being suspended,)

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that John F.
Dawson, is detained from his seat in consequence of the death
of his mother.

Mr. Carmichael, Chairman Committee on Judiciary, re-
ported favorably a bill entitled, an Act to authorize the courts
of this State to decree the sale of land in certain cases where
infants and non-residents are interested ;

Which was read a first time.

On motion of Mr. Thomas,

The bill entitled, an Act to authorize the Board of Public
Works to vote the Stock of the State in the' Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal Company for a President and four Directors upon
the nomination of ttie holders of preferred bonds of said
Company,

Was considered and recommitted to the Committee on
Ways and Means.
