Mr. Thomas, chairman Committee on Ways and Means,
submitted the following :

Resolved ly the General Assembly of Maryland, That John
S. Gittings, James W. Alnutt and Alexander B. Hagner or
any two of them, be and they are hereby appointed Commis-
sioners on the part of the State of Maryland, to audit, adjust
and settle with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company
the mutual accounts between the State and said company,
respecting the payments and remittances of interest on the
five per cent, sterling bonds of the State and premiums for
exchange and other expenses attending the same.

Resolved, That the Comptroller of the Treasury, the Presi-
dent of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, and the
Treasurer of the State be and they are hereby authorized and
required to furnish to the said Commissioners any and all in-
formation by the inspection of the books and papers of their
respective offices or otherwise, which may enable them prop-
erly to adjust and settle said accounts, and the said Commis-
sioners be and they are hereby required to report to the
Comptroller the result of said settlement as soon as the same
is ascertained, to be laid by him before the General Assembly
at the session to be held next thereafter for their approval or
rejection.

Resolved, That the said Commissioners shall.be allowed
the sum of five dollars each per day for each and every day
they may be engaged in the adjustment of said accounts., and
that the Comptroller of the Treasury be and he is hereby au-
thorized to issue his warrant to the said Commissioners and
each of them for the amount of per diem that may be due,
upon filing a certificate of said amount verified by the affida-
vit of said Commissioners.

Which were read a first time, and, on motion of Mr.
Thomas, (three-fourths of all the members concurring) or-
dered to a seond reading.

Pending which, Mr. Jones proposed the following amend-
ment:

After the words "Comptroller of the Treasury" insert the
words "the President of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Evans proposed the following amendment :

Add at the end of second resolution, "and the said Com-
missioners be and they are hereby required to report to the
Comptroller the result of said settlement as soon as the same
is ascertained to be laid by him beforl the General Assembly
at its session to be held next thereafter for their approval or
rejection."

Which was adopted.
