WEDNESDAY, February 20, 1867.
The President laid before the Senate, the following

COMMUNICATION :
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION.

BALTIMORE, Feb. 20, 1867.
To the Hon. C. 0. Cox,

Lt. Gov. and President of the Senate,

of Maryland.

SIR: I respectfully ask the appointment of a Select Com-
mittee of the Senate, or that an order be passed directing the
Committee on Education, to visit the State Normal School, in
the City of Baltimore, to examine its work, report its present
condition and what is needed to make it thoroughly efficient
in educating teachers for the Public Schools of the State.
Very respectfully yours,

State Superintendent,
of Public Instruction.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Edu-
action.

Mr. Bowie presented the memorial J. B. Brinkley, Wm.
J. Bryson, Sloan & Caldwell and other citizens and merchants
of Baltimore, against any change in the charter of the Balti-
more and Potomac Railroad Company;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inter-
nal Improvements.
