Which were read and severally referred to the Carroll dele-
gation.

Mr. Hammond presented petition to extend the turnpike
road from Brookville to Hood's Mills, in Howard county ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inter-
nal Improvements.

Mr. Morgan presented the petition of R. Ford and twenty-
five other citizens of St. Mary's county, praying the General
Assembly to pass a law authorizing the Governor to appoint
a wood-eorder, and also a weigher of hay and straw, in the
village of Leonardtown, St. Mary's county ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Inspec-
tions.

On motion of Mr. Parsons.

Ordered, That Mr. Dennis be granted a few days leave of
absence from his duties in this House.

On motion of Mr. Gore,

Ordered, That Mr. Poole have leave of absence, for a few
days, to visit his home.

On motion of Mr. Kraft,

Ordered, That the Folder of this House furnish the Sen-
ate with two thousand copies of the Report of the State Su-
perintendent of Public Instruction.
On motion of Mr. Benton,

Ordered, That leave of absence be granted James V. Cris-
well, to visit his home on important business.

On motion of Mr. Clarke,

Ordered, .That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
issue a certificate to Job Haines for fifty dollars for services
rendered the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Clarke, (the rules being suspended,) presented the pe-
tition of John Gaboon, praying that a pension may be grant-
to him ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes-
sage :

To the House of Delegates:

GENTLEMEN : We suggest, with the concurrence of your
Honorable Body, that the President of the Senate and the
Speaker of the House of Delegates be requested to address
