Said bill was then sent to the Senate.
The hour of 12 o'clock having arrived, in accordance with
the message sent to the Senate and in conformity with the
Act of Congress, 1866, chapter 245, entitled, an Act to regu-
late the time and manner of holding elections for Senators
in Congress,
The House proceeded to hold an election for Senator in
the Congress of the United States, to supply an existing va-
cancy of the State of Maryland in the Senate of the United
States ;
The roll of members of the House of Delegates being called,
it appeared, by a viva voce vote of each member present, (a
majority of all the members elected to the House being pres-
ent and voting,) that
Hon. Philip Frances Thomas, received........ 55 votes
Hon. John A. J. Creswell, received............16 "
So it appeared that the Hon. Philip Frances Thomas had
received a majority of all the votes cast.
The House then proceeded to the consideration of Reports
of Standing Committees.
Mr. Kerr, Chairman of Committee on Printing, made the
following
MAJORITY REPORT :
The Committee on Printing, to whom was referred the
motion to print ten thousand copies of the Report of the
Joint Committee appointed to present to his Excellency Gov-
Swann the Resolutions of the two Houses upon his declina.
