gations to introduce a bill to empower the County Commis-
sioners of Howard county to levy upon the taxable property
of said county certain sums of money annually for the benefit
of the Public Schools in said county.
Mr. Shipley, (the rules being yet further suspended) pre-
sented the petition of J. H. Wright, of Baltimore county,
against the passage of charter to Attwood Blont to con-
struct a railroad.
Which were read and referred to the Committee on Internal
Improvements.
. The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled, an
Act to appropriate a sum of money for the purpose of paying
the claim of Thomas E. Dell, endorsed "paised by yeas and
nays."
Also, delivered the following message:

election of United States Senator at 12 o'clock to-day, and

Also, delivered the bill entitled, an act to add another
section to the 26th article of the Code of Public General Laws
relating to Corporations, to come in as the tenth section of
the said article, which was read a first time and referred to
Committee on Corporations.
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section two of an Act
passed March 24th, 1865, chapter!99, entitled, an Act to
authorize Southey F. Miles, of Somerset county to erect gates
on the county road in said county, and to re-enact the same
with amendments, which was read a first time, and referred
to the Somerset delegation.

The rules being suspended, the House took up for consid-
eration the bill entitled, an act to authorize Thomas McCrea,
Jr., of Howard county, to act in the double capacity of Jus-
tice of the Peace and Assistant Assessor which was read a
second, and, (three-fourths of all the members concurring,) a
third time, and passed by yeas and nays as follow:
