McCnlley presented the petition of sundry citizens of Al-
legany county, asking a pension to George Metts, an aged
and wounded soldier of the war of 1812 ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Thomas presented the memorial of citizens of Talbot
county, praying that legislation may be had for the relief of
the Southern people now suffering for food ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Neal offered the following :

Ordered, That the printing of only so many copies of the re-
port of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction as shall
have been delivered to this House on the 20th instant, shall
be paid for; and the printing of such number as shall have
been delivered at said date shall be paid for in exact propor-
tion as the number delivered compares with the whole num-
ber contracted for.

Which, on motion of Mr. Hooper, was laid on the table.
On motion of Mr. Calvert,

Ordered, That the Committee on Printing be requested to
inquire whether the documents ordered to be translated in
German have been properly executed.
On motion of Mr. Israel,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill to empower the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore to appropriate money for the relief of the suf-
fering poor of the South.

On motion of Mr. Thomson,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill to provide for the paving of the street
around the State House, called the State House circle.

On motion of Mr. Whiteford,

Leave was granted to the Harford and Baltimore county
delegation to report a bill to amend the charter of the Balti-
more and Peach Bottom Railroad Company.
On motion of Mr. Thomson,

Leave was granted the Committee of Ways and Means to
introduce a bill to provide for the collection of State taxes in
Baltimore city.

On motion oi Mr. McGulley,

Leave was granted to the Allegany county delegation to
introduce a bill entitled, an Act to incorporate Sheffer Lodge,
