Mr. Clarke submitted the following

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

Tuesday, March 12th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

WHEREAS, a vacancy in the representation of the State of
Maryland in the Senate of the United States hath happened
during the session of this Legislature; and whereas, the Act
of Congresss of 1866, chapter 245, directs that the Legisla-
ture shall proceed to elect a person to fill such vacancy in the
manner prescribed in that Act, on the second Tuesday after
the Legislature shall have been organized and shall have
notice of such vacancy. We therefore propose, with the con-
currence of your Honorable Body, to proceed to elect a per-
son to fill such vacancy in the manner prescribed in the afore-
said Act of Congress, at twelve o'clock, this day, it being
the second Tuesday after this Legislature hath had notice of
such vacancy.

others, praying that a contribution may be made by the
State to aid the poor and suffering people of the South ;

Mr. Cameron presented the petition of the voters in 5th.
Election District, Baltimore county, to change the place of
holding elections in said district;

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore County
delegation.

Mr. Benton presented the petition of A. D. Shaffer and 77
other citizens of Carroll county, against the repeal of the
Funeral Law;
