Mr. Knott presented the memorial of N. R. Waters, J. B.
Williams and others in favor of modifying the Sunday law,
Which was read and referred, and,

On motion of Mr. Neilson,
Ordered to be entered on the Journal.
Mr. Stevens presented the following :

Petition of Drs. N. R. Smith, Chris. Johnson and others
praying the passage of a law to prevent unlawful abortion,

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Mr. Hammond presented a petition of sundry citizens of
Howard county, praying for a turnpike over the Westminster
road.

Also, a petition of Thomas Griffith and others, asking for
the extension of the turnpike road from Brookville in Mont-
gomery county to Cooksville, Howard county;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpora-
tions.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

The vote by which the leave to introduce a bill entitled, an
Act to amend the charter of the Baltimore and Potomac Rail-
road Company, was on Saturday granted the Committee on
Corporations;

Was reconsidered, and

On motion of Mr. Magruder,
Was referred to the Committee on Internal Improvements.

On motion of Mr. Bruce,

Ordered, That the Committee on Ways and Means, have
leave to report a bill appropriating a sum of money for the
relief of our starving fellow beings of the South.

Mr. Stevens offered the following :

Ordered, That the Chief Clerk of this House, be author-
ized to have the seats of the lobby re-upholstered and pro-
perly repaired;

Which was not adopted.

On motion of Mr. Thomas,

Leave was granted the Committee on Ways and Means to
report a bill entitled, an Act making appropriations for the
support of the government for the year ending, on the first
day of January, 1869.

On motion of Mr. Neilson,

Leave was granted the Select Committee on the Penitenti-
ary to report a bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections 3 and 9
