county, to Act in the double capacity of Justice of the Peace
and assistant Assessor;

On motion of Mr. Bruce,

Leave was granted the Committee on Corporations to re-
port a bill to incorporate the Lonaconing Lodge No. 22, In-
dependent order of Good Templers;

On motion of Mr. Neale,

Leave was granted the Queen Anne's, Kent and Cecil dele-
gation to report a bill to obtain a charter authorizing the
construction of a railroad from a point at or near the town of
Elkton, in Cecil county, to a point at or near the town of
Masseys X Roads, in Kent county;

On motioa of McCulloh,

Leave was granted the Allegany delegation to report a bill
to prohibit the sale of intoxicating liquors within four miles
of Frostburg, Allegany county;

On motion of Mr. McCulley,

Leave was granted the Allegany county delegation to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an Act to authorize and require the
County Commissioners of Allegany county to levy an addi-
tional School tax, as provided for in section five of the eighth
Article of the Constitution of this State;

Mr. Mhomas, chairman of the committee on Ways and
Means, reported back a petition of citizens of Frederick city,
asking the repeal of that part of the proviso to section 4, Arti-
cle 81, of Code of Public General Laws, which limits to fifteen
thousand dollars the value of property owned by several Lite-
rary and Charitable Institutions of the State, which shall be
exempted from taxation;

Also, a memorial of William J. Albert, Wm. Kennedy,
Benjamin Deford, Henry Tyson, Chauncey Brooks, Kirkr
land, Chase and Company, Richard Fisher, John E. Proud,
Isaac McKim, Cushings and Bailey, Woodward and Baldwin
and 150 other business firms and citizens of Baltimore, pray-
ing for a repeal of the proviso, to section 4, of Article 81 of
the Code of Public General Laws, limiting the exemption of
taxation on the property of Incorporated Literary and Chari-
table Institution of the State;

Also, a memorial of S. Teackle Wallis, Isaac P. Cook and
others in favor of exempting Literary and Charitable Insti-
tutions;

Also, a memorial of J. Mason Campbell, Wm. H. Collins
and others in favor of exempting the property of Incorporated
Literary and Charitable Institutions of the State from taxa-
tion;

Also, a memorial of A. McCaffrey and thirty-eight other
