House that had Messrs. Devecmon, Phelps, Stevens, Bixler,
Davis, of Baltimore city and Flaherty been present they
would have voted in the affirmative upon the resolutions com-
plimentary to Gov. Swann.
On motion of Mr. Brydon,
Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of this
House that Mr. Devecmon is absent from his seat on account
of sickness.
On motion of Mr. Hutton,
Ordered, That Mr. Burche have leave of absence from
this House on Monday next.
On motion of Mr. Bishop,
Ordered, That the State Printer be notified to-day that if
the Report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
be not delivered to the folders of this General Assembly on
or before the 12th inst., the contract for printing the same
will be annulled, and payment for the printing thereof made
only in proportion to the amount now delivered; provided,
that the completed manuscrspt of said report was in his pos-
session and under his control prior to the 12th day of Febru-
ary, 1867.
On motion of Mr. Nicolai,
Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
be directed to issue certificates to the witnesses summoned by
the Committee on Corporations from Allegany county to tes-
tify before them in the case of the Cumberland and Pennsyl-
vania Railroad Company, $50 each.
On motion of Mr. Aydelott,
Leave was granted the Committee on Claims to report a
bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 2 of chapter 108, pas-
sed February 8th, 1866, relating to certificates of officers in
paying bounties ;
Mr. Carmichael, Chairman of Commictee on the Judici-
ary, reported unfavorably on the petition of citizens of Mont-
gomery county, praying for the passage of a law authorizing
the County Commissioners to pay such Registers of 1865 and
1866 at they deem deserving of their per diem ;
Also, on the petition of forty citizens of the village of
Berlin, Frederick county, asking for a law to prohibit the
sale of spirituous liquors in said village ;
Also, on petition relative to cost of constables ;
Also, on the petition of Jos. H. Matingly and others,
praying an increase of pay per diem to Messengers and Bai-
liffs of Circuit Courts;
