Mr. Carmichael, Chairman of the Committee on the Judi-
ciary, reported favorably upon a bill entitled, an Act to au-
thorize the purchase or condemnation of certain lands in the
city of Annapolis, and in Anne Arundel county, for the pub-
lic use of the United States as part of the Naval Academy,
and to cede tb the United States concurrent jurisdiction Over
such lands, and to exempt the same from taxation;
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to add additional sections to
Article 30 of the Code of General Laws, in relation to embez-
zlement and frauds;
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 36 of Article
10 of the Code of Public General Laws relating to attach-
ments, and to re-enact the same;
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to add to Article 91; of the
Code of Public General Laws, entitled, "Sureties," an addi-
tional section providing for the better protection of the same;
.Which were severally read a first time.
Also, unfavorably upon the petition of Rev. A. M. Kester
and others toliave a deed legalized and recorded;
Also, on the leave to introduce a bill to make valid a deed
from John Smith and wife to Ann Matilda Fogle;
Also, on the leave to introduce a bill to amend Article 11
of the Code of Public General Laws, title "State's Attor-
neys," by adding thereto new sections, and to repeal the Act
of 1862, chapter 236, entitled an Act to add a new section to
Article 81, of the Code of Public General Laws, in relation
to the duties of State's Attorneys, to come in after section 83
of said Article;
Also, on the petition of citizens of Dorchester county, pray-
ing the passage of an Act for the protection of the shad and
herring fisheries in Nanticoke river, and asked to be dis-
charged from the further consideration of the same.
Reports concurred in and committee discharged.
Also, unfavorably upon a bill entitled, an Act to define the
title to certain real estate in the State of Maryland;
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 49 of Article
30 of Code of Public General Laws relating to embezzling
property and writing, and to re-enact the same so as to read
as follows.
Which were severally read a first time.
Also, unfavarably upon the petition of sundry citizens of
Carroll county, showing that it is with great difficulty they
can reach the seat of Justice in their county, asking that the
