Mr. Nicolai proposed the following amendment:
SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That all persons arrested in the Say
time under the provisions of this Act, shall be taken by |he
officer or officers making the arrest, immediately before the
nearest magistrate for an examination previous to their incar-
ceration in either of the watch houses or jail of the city of
Baltimore;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Smith proposed the following amendment:

SEC. 825. Nothing in this Act shall be construed to pre-
vent the present commissioners and their officers and men
from continuing in the discharge of their duties as such until
their successors shall be duly appointed and qualified;

Which was adopted;

Mr. Boswell proposed the following amendment.

SEC. 806. Line 9, strike out "twenty-five hundred," and
insert "three thousand dollars;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Neilson proposed the following amendment:

Section 806, line 3, strike out word "three" and insert
"four," and in line 5, strike out the words "said three per-
sons," after the word "selected" and insert "who with the
Mayor of the city of Baltimore;

Which was rejected.

Mr. Lankford proposed the following amendment;

Strike out the word "six" before the word "sergeants," and
insert "eight;"

Which was adopted.

The bill as amended was then read a second time.

Mr. Davis, of Baltimore city, moved that the bill be laid
over and printed;

Which was not sustained.
On motion of Mr. Stevens,

Three-fourths of all the members being present and con-
curring,
The rules were suspended,

And the bill read a third time and passed by yeas and
nays as follow:
