Mr. Hammond proposed the following amendment:

SEC. —. Be it enacted^ That nothing herein contained
shall apply to the advantage of any one who will pot take an
oath that he has not entered the service, civil or military, of
the Southern Confederacy, or any State thereof, during the
late rebellion ;

Mr. Gorsuch proposed the following amendment to the
amendment:

"Or in any manner resisted the march of tha Federal
forces either in the loyal States or in the States in insurrec-
tion, or encouraged others to enter the service of the so-called
Confederate States;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Neilson proposed the following amendment to the
amendment ;

Add the words, "before the 12th February, 1862;"

Which was rejected. ,.
