or to make calls or assessments upon the present capital
stock.

Also, a bill entitled, an Act to incorporate the Baltimore
Soapstone Company.

Mr. Thomas Chairman Committee on Ways and Means re-
ported favorably a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 2 of
Article 56 of the Code of Public General Laws, title Licenses,
and re-enact the same with amendments;

Which were severally read a first time.

Mr. Hammond, from the Committee on the Judiciary, re-
ported favorably a bill entitled, an Act to add additional sec-
tions to Article 45 of the Code of Public General Laws, re-
lating to "husband and wife," and to define the rights and
liabilities of married women as tenants for term of years;

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Thomas, Chairman of Committee on Ways and Means
reported favorably without amendments the bill entitled, an
Act to enable the Directors of the Maryland Institution for
the Instruction of the Blind, to complete and render fit for
occupation the building now in course of erection in Balti-
more county;

Which was read a second time.

Also, unfavorably upon the bill entitled, an Act to assist
in supplying the Public Schools of the State, with a perfect
map of Maryland.

Also, unfavorably a bill entitled, an Act to repeal the 21st
section of Article 56 of the Code of Public General Laws,
entitled, "Licenses," and to re-enact the same with an amend-
ment;

Which was read a first time.

Also, unfavorably a bill entitled, an Act to provide com-
pensation for the Lieutenant Governor when not acting as
President of the Senate;

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Bixler, Chairman Committee on Education, reported
a bill entitled, an Act to authorize the payment of back
funds to Abington Academy;

Which was read a first time, and

On motion of Mr. Bixler,
Referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
