Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of this House
that James V. Criswell is absent from his seat on account of
sickness in his family.

On motion of Mr. Brydon,

Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal of this House
that Mr. Wm. Devecmon is absent, being called home by
unavoidable necessities.

On motion of Mr. Colemao,

Ordered, That the Committee on Claims be and they are
hereby authorized to pay the expenses of the Select Commit-
tee on the Maryland Penitentiary.

On motion of Mr. Wilson,

Ordered, That Mr. Hutchins be granted leave of absence
to attend to important business.

On motion of Mr. King,

Ordered, That the Commissioner of Immigration inform
this House what amount of the public money has been ex-
pended by him since the last session of the General Assem-
bly and for what specific purposes.

On motion of Mr. Burche,

Ordered, That the State Superintendent of Public Instruc-
tion, report to this House what books are used in the Public
Schools of the State, where published, from whom purchased,
