DEPARTMENT OP PUBLIC INSTRUCTION,

BALTIMORE, February 20, 1867.
HON. O. MILLER,

Speaker of House of Delegates:

SIR :—I respectfully ask the appointment of a Select Com-
mittee of the House, or that an order be passed directing the
Committee on Education to visit the State Normal School) lo-
cated in the city of Baltimore, to examine its work, report
its present condition and what is needed to make it thor-
oughly efficient in educating teachers for the Public Schools
of the State.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Winch were read and referred to the Committee on Edu-
cation.

Mr. Turner presented the petition of the citizens of Balti-
more in favor of the modification of the Sunday Law;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
the Sunday Law.

On motion of Mr. Calvert,

The rules were suspended, "

And the House took up for consideration the Senate bill
entitled, an Act supplementary to an Act to incorporate the
Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River Tide Water Canal Com-
pany, passed at January session, 1866, chapter 173;

Which was then read a third time and passed by yeas and
nays as follow:
