Said bill being upon its second reading ;
Pending which,

Mr. Davis, of Baltimore city, proposed the following
amendment:

Strike out'all after first section, and insert as section sec-
ond, That this Act shall take effect from and after the date
of its passage.

Mr. Smith proposed the following :

Strike ont in section 2d all after the word "at" to the word
"city," on line 3, and insert the words "an election to be held
for that purpose in the city of Baltimore on the first Wed-
nesday in April next."

On motion of Mr. Stevens,

A call of the House was ordered when the following mem-
bers responded to their names:

Messrs. Miller, Sp'r, Morgan, Beck, Welch, Ford, Shipley,
Nicolai, Davis, of Charles, Thomas, Jump, Jones, Par-
sons, Phelps, Kerr, Lindsey, Magruder, Calvert, Rouzer,
Baker, Linthicum, Gorsuch, Tobey, Bishop, Burche, Cole-
man, Neilson, Smith, Flaherty, Hooper, Israel, Kaott, Lank-
ford, Stevens, Kraft, Boswell, Thomson, Davis, of Baltimore
city, Waltemeyer, Feig, Pitts, Aydelott, Gordy, Wilson,
Spicer, Bruce, McCulloh, Devecmon, Neale, Criswell, Ham-
mond—50.

On motion of Mr. Jones,

The Sergeant-at-Arms was ordered to notify the absent
members to give their attendance, and to bring them before
the bar of the House.

After some time the Sergeant-at-Arms returned and report-
ed that he had brought before the bar of the House all the
absent members now in the city.

On motion of Mr. Linthicum,
All further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.

Mr. Aydelott moved to strike out the enacting clause of the
bill;

Which was decided in the negative by yeas and nays as
follow:
