Mr. Gorsuch presented the memorial of A. McCaffrey and
thirty-eight other citizens of Frederick county, asking for
the repeal of the proviso to section 4 of Article 81 of the
Code of Public General Laws, imposing a tax on Literary or
Charitable Institutions;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Kerr presented the petition of citizens of Dorchester
county, praying the passage of an Act for the protection of
the shad and herring fisheries in Nanticoke river;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Mr. Knott presented the memorial of J. Mason Campbell,
Wm. H. Collins and others, in favor of exempting the pro-
perty of Incorporated Literary and Charitable institutions of
the State from taxation;

Also, the memorial of S. Teackle Wallis, Isaac P. Cook
and others, in favor of exempting Literary and charitable In-
stitutions;

Which were read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Robson presented the petition of the citizens of Balti-
more in favor of the running of the City Passenger Railway
cars on Sunday;

Which was read and relerred to the Select Committee on
Sunday Law.

The Speaker laid before the House the remonstrance of
sundry citizens of Anne Arundel county against any legisla-
tion whereby the existing restrictions for the observance of
the Christian Sabbath would be relaxed;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
Sunday Law.

Mr. Knott presented the memorial of Columbus O'Donnell
Poole & Hunt and others in favor of exempting Literary and
Charitable Institutions from taxation;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.
