Mr. Hammond submitted the following
RESOLUTION.

Resolved, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Board of Public Works be, and they are hereby, instructed and
directed, at all annual or general meetings of the stockholders
of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, to cast the vote of
the State of Maryland for such person as President, and for
three such persons as Directors of said Company as shall be
recommended to said Board, in writing, by the Trustees of
the holders of the preferred bonds issued by said Company
in pursuance of the Act of Assembly passed at December ses-
sion, 1844, chapter 281, entitled, "An Act for the completion
of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal to Cumberland, and for
other purposes," or in the event of said Trustees failing, who
shall be recommended, in writing, to said Board by a majority
in value of the holders of said bonds ;

Which was read a first time, and,
On motion of Mr. Hammond,

Was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
Mr. Kraft submitted the following joint resolution :

Whereas, There have been a number of claims for State
bounty, filed in the office of the Comptroller by military offi-
cers, some of whom have been mustered out of the United
States service, and others have removed from this State, or
are liable to be removed, and if said bounty claims were paid
to said parties, it would be difficult, if not impossible, for
claimants to obtain their money; therefore,

Be it Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Comptroller be, and he is hereby directed not to recog-
nize or pay any such claims for State bounty to any military
officer now in the United States service, or who has been dis-
charged thereirom, unless said officer be an agent or attorney
resident permanently in this State;

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Thomas submitted the following :

Resolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Comptroller of the Treasury be and he is hereby authorized
and directed to issue warrants upon the Treasurer for the pay-
ment of all claims for bounty which were examined and
passed, or certified to be correct by the late Comptroller, or
by his authority. Also, for the payment of all claims for
bounty which were prepared and authenticated according to
the forms prescribed by the late Comptroller, and filed in his
office, on or before the first day of June last, for which no
conflicting claims have been presented;
