Comptroller's Office.

Also, the bill entitled, an Act to compensate Francis A.
Prevost for services rendered as assistant clerk in the office of
the Clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore City, under
Edward Dowling, late Clerk thereof;

Also, the bill entitled, an Act appropriating a sum of mo-
ney to pay the claims of James L. Martin, Thomas Donald-
son, Thomas S. Alexander, John A. Lynch, John Ritchie,
and the administrators of the estate of the late Ezekiel F.
Chambers, Samuel T. Hopkins, Lloyd Tilghman and Michael
Zimmerman, for services rendered the State by official appoint-
ment ;

Which were severally read a first time.

Mr. Thomas, Chairman of Committee on Ways and Means,
reported unfavorably on the petition of the Guardian Life
Insurance Company of New York, praying the re-payment of
money paid by them in excess for licenses with extracts a, b,
c, d and e;

Which was concurred in.

Mr. Turner, from Committee on Corporations, reported
favorably a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 460 of the
4th article of the Code of Public Local Laws and re-enact
the same with an amendment.

Also, a bill entitled, an Act to add certain sections to the
Code of Public Local Laws, article 4, relating to the weigh-
ing of live stock by the Inspector of Hay and Straw at the
Eastern Hay Scales of the City of Baltimore ;

Also, a bill entitled, an Act to appropriate the sum of
twenty-five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be
necessary, to the rebuilding of the hay scales and the build-
ing connected with the same, owned by the State, and situate
in the Eastern section of the city of Baltimore, near the inter-
section of O'Donnell street with the western line of Balti-
more county, to repair, or re-supply the Scales, and adapt
them to the weighing of live stock, as well as hay and straw,
and to provide such yards for live stock as may be necessary ;

Which were severally read a first time; and,

On motion of Mr. Turner,
Referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.
