a bill providing for an appropriation for the Maryland Insti-
tution for the Instruction of the Blind, respectfully sets
forth:

That your Committee, after a personal inspection of the
premises on North Avenue, in Baltimore county, corroborate,
in every particular, the Report of the Building Committee of
said Institution, as published in the Annual Report thereof,
on the first of January, 1867, and have every reason to be-
lieve that the Asylum for the Blind, now in course of erec-
tion, is being built not only substantially but economically.

Situated on an elevated position, it presents a bold and
handsome appearance, while it is conveniently and commodi-
ously arranged so as to accommodate, on completion, sixty
pupils, with capacity for forty more.

The lot was purchased in I860, part of it at about
$300 per acre. It contains about 3% acres,
costingthen about... ...........................$11,493 75

This ground could not be bought to-day for
$20,000........................................

The main building is 140 feet front by 60 feet
deep, and the centre building projects 45 feet
in rear and 8 feet in front....................

The cost of cellar, including brick work and gran-
ite band cornice, was;............................ 14,216 76

The cost of stone work, including 2,430 ps. stone
masonry, stone windows, doorways, balconies
and steps, was.................................. 33,680 00

The cost of carpenters' work already done is about 18,000 00
The cost of flooring purchased is................... 6,470 00

The cost of slate roof is............................ 2,800 00

616,000 bricks cost $14, and some of them, for

chimneys, $22—cost say................... 10,000 00

Laying and Sand, at $8—cost say................. 5,000 00

Architect's and Superintendent's fees............... 2,500 00

Harris, for measuring............................. 300 00

Hooks and Fenders....................$140 00

Insurance.................................... 12000

Grating.............................. 250 00

Extra Labor................ ............ 24000 75000

Expended to 10th February, 1867.......... $105,210 00

There is still to be provided :
